The crescent moon is rich in symbolism and appears throughout history with a variety of shapes and connotations. This waxing crescent moon, a Karla Hackman Designs original, is first hand-carved in wax and then cast in fine silver. Using Keum Boo, an ancient Korean gilding technique, thin layers of 24 solid gold in an organic texture are then fused to the moon. Combining my love of wax carving with this ancient jewelry technique resulted in this beautiful one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry. In the center of the moon, sits a 3mm Fire Opal or Aquamarine. The piece is then finished with heavy oxidation to highlight the rich gold luster. The pendant hangs from an 18" sterling silver rolo chain with an oxidized finish.
Pendant measures: 1 5/16" L x 1/4" W x 1/8" D.
